SHADOW GAME
And a huge shadowy, snake like demon erupts from it, time freezing in place. It grins wickedly, hissing out its words.]
I ssssee. A test is in order.
[EVERYONE PRESENT ROLL 1D10. Whoever rolls the lowest begins to age rapidly. If they are unable to complete the 'game' that person will die of old age. (can also choose oocly if you just prefer)
For the rest, five memories appear, but they are blurry, purposely obscured. The demon hisses out: To whom and when do these belong to?
1) Two brothers...are they really? Tensions run high as they stand off at each other, on opposing ends.
2) An illusion, but this person embraces it, with zero feelings of regret and malice. If they had to redo it, they'd still choose this. . .
3) A young boy on a stage, acting, it's all pretend. But even as the crowd cheers for the star and boos him as the villain, he knows he must give it his all.
4) Someone stands before you, and you peer down at them. They're so small but begging, pleading for help. You offer them a bit of your power, but then. . .
5) There's water, water all around, as well as blood. This person is alone it seems, but then maybe not...there's someone with their face.
MIX/MATCH GAME - Characters instinctively know they must get at LEAST 3 correct (as a collective) to beat the demon game. ]
Re: SHADOW GAME
to Scaranke, it's the same, except he's now a shriveled green... alien thing.
Subito squeals (croaks), his cry an amalgamation of alarm and delight. he addresses Levi directly. ]
Ha... hahaha. See, master? I can do it, too! The act of aging... it's not limited to just mortals. I'm... fragile, like this.
[ he's talking as if aging is some kind of art. ]
Re: SHADOW GAME
I... believe the last one is mine.
[That's his memory, certainly. Or his brother's? The memories surrounding his twin still have so many holes in them that he can't call to mind a specific time. He gives Rata an uncomfortable look.]
From when my brother and I were elvers.
[That might not be enough.]
Re: SHADOW GAME
Re: SHADOW GAME
Mine — uh, Scarab's saying the fourth one is...probably him? From the first time he helped me out in a fight.
Re: SHADOW GAME
[ Internal panic... ]
Th-The third one is mine!
[ He's not going to elaborate, it just is and he knows it! ]
Re: SHADOW GAME
[ his pathetic croaky old man voice shows zero recognition. ]
From... before I arrived here.
[ technically true; the scene from the current happened about 20 minutes before he fell into the pasture ]
Re: SHADOW GAME
The first memory becomes clear: Levi and his brother, rough housing with (read: probably murdering) sharks in their youth.
The second memory becomes clear: Angie and Zidane, each of their tails stiff as they stare each other down, stubborn in their ideals.
The third memory becomes clear: Belle, young, and acting his heart out, despite the boos from the crowd.
The fourth memory becomes clear: An entity staring down a young boy like Ananke...wait, no. The memory is on the fritz. It's not Ananke at all, but a slightly younger Ceo--one of the wolves some of them may or may not recognize. The Forever Snake towers above him, offering him a scale.
The fifth memory becomes clear: Subito, having seen better days, proclaiming his lack of regret to the one he loves.
The demon snorts, displeased, but the criteria met.]
. . . a pity. I've done all I can do.
[A burst of light, and it vanishes, along with the wolf's corpse that summoned it.
Their path forward to the blinded snake is without obstruction. And no one present would recognize it, but its bindings are similar to that which collared Death long, long ago.]
Re: SHADOW GAME
Re: SHADOW GAME
question though-- are the bindings sentient. do they have a will of their own, or are they controlled by someone/thing else? ]
Re: SHADOW GAME
and of course he's joining Rose in inspecting the snake and giving the bindings a wary scan. He's looking for any potential traps that might trigger if they mess with it too carelessly ]
Re: SHADOW GAME
And he might not have seen Death's bindings, but he's talked with the little snake. He can make an assumption or two.]
Should we bring the priest along? Who can say how long this portal will be open.
Re: SHADOW GAME
... if we're going to do that, then we should retrieve them quickly.
Re: SHADOW GAME
Don't worry about me, please free the holy beast!!
[also nope no sentience on the bindings itself]
Re: SHADOW GAME
Re: SHADOW GAME
the sharpest thing he has is his fangs. why did they pop out. no. NO. HE"S NOT GONNA BITE IT ]
Did anyone here happen to bring a knife.
Re: SHADOW GAME
Gets to work on the bindings, if that'll be enough.]
Re: SHADOW GAME
[ Extends the suit over one of his arms to form a blade and gets started on the other end to speed things up ]
1/2
The bindings take a bit of effort--it's like a decorative eye mask, but encrusted with diamonds and silver, like the collar that subdued Death. And when they place their hands upon the snake, they also experience various effects of time--maybe Ananke's suit begins to rust, they age, they deage, they may or may not experience memories they didn't even realize they had from the future or the past. Everything is Right There, Forever, for a few brief seconds. . .
And then finally it snaps off.
Immediately, time stabilizers. Subito finds his body returning to 'normal', as well as anyone touching the snake at the moment. Coils whip all around them as the torn binding reveals a single massive Eye, similar to the Jim Deer and Death's, atop the snake's 'main' head, attached to a torso that only vaguely resembles something humanoid. The beast doesn't open its mouth, but it screams regardless. A scream of thanks, relief, and acknowledgement.
The ground rumbles around them. Coils, snakes, massive, small, all rush by the group, flashing images of their past and present lives. The Forever Snake is everywhere and always, but Finally converging, as it should be. A memory crosses Levi's mind specifically, a familiar voice of Ceo answering questions from a hysterical crowd of followers--
~
"Why? Why cripple the sacred beast? It won't answer any prayers like this!"
"If I hadn't, we'd all be dead. We can't let anyone release it, not until we've healed the King."
"It's wrong. It's wrong! If I'd known this would have happened--"
"It doesn't matter. The only reason we've remained unchanged is because of its bindings."
He looks away.
"Even if it take another five hundred years, I'll do everything I can to save our people."
~
The coils finally all meet at a singular point, and in the light, they all can only see a mass of writhing coils...and the shadow of the Forever Snake itself*
*I was gonna get a commission of it but i been off my game USE YOUR IMAGINATION IT LOOKS COOLER THAN THAT.
There is a calming sense when you all look upon it, and a low hiss. . .a thank you.
And then all is blinding.
When you wake up again, you're all floating in the middle of the ocean. Probably, you should revert back to Mers.]

AND ALSO
THE FOUNTAIN GLOWS. Suddenly, the rim of the fountain is covered in snake-like eye patterns as 'scales'. The glow fades, but seems to coordinate with how dangerous the antlers think the mist is.
It is not known ICly yet but: Placing your hands on the scales will now allow characters to fast travel to any spot in the mist they have been before. Getting back is their own issue. However, the Forever Snake will not teleport them if the mist is too dangerous, so they will still be forced to venture out on their own poor decisions sometimes.
