All music brings me peace. Even the sad tunes.

If... if we're going to be granted peace here, so be it.

But before that, we wanted to bring you peace, too. A soothing gesture from the outside world to you.

What does peace mean to you, child?

'Peace' means calmness. Being able to experience joy. The feeling music brings into the soul. How it lightens the heart and makes you smile. How it's impossible to hold onto any hate, even if your enemy is sitting right next to you.

I was a pianist. I wish I could demonstrate... do you have a piano? You won't regret it.

Pianos do not exist here, in Nothing.

It is a material attachment.

In the living world, without this instrument, you'd be struck with sadness, yes?

You will be stripped of such weakness here.

That's true. I would be. Anxious. Nervous. When I thought my hands were rotting, I could barely stop crying. Even if it hadn't been painful, it wouldn't have mattered...

But the power of music doesn't change.

Surely I know some tunes you'd like. It'd be nice to think you'd remember them...

It is all trivial to Me.

It does not matter.




But such melodies are an understandable attachment. A shame.

...It's called Bethena. The author wrote it after his wife passed away. The one he loved so much. It takes you through his emotions of dealing with loss and trying to balance that with memories of happier times...

Is that trivial?

To a mortal, however, it is Everything.

How burdensome.

That's... actually why I'm here.

It's like you said. We don't belong in this world. Someone with good intentions brought us here. And if we somehow pass to this place... it's proven she can bring us back.

--Can't you let that happen? We have lots to live for. If not in this world, then back home where we came from.

There's no reasons we can't bring more, right? Maybe... maybe the souls would enjoy music, too? If you don't want something for yourself, why not them?

If the sheep 'upstairs' enjoy it, why wouldn't the souls?
