It's my way of saying, I'm not responsible for your happiness, just like you're not responsible for mine. You shouldn't let other people -- or mysterious rituals -- decide how you live your life.

If you actually have a preference about something for a change, I encourage you to follow it, if only just to see what it's like. Don't depend on other people to decide your life for you. They won't always have the best ideas, or your best interest, at heart.
